CAT: Experts foresee changes in type, quality of questions

Last Updated 31 July 2016, 18:35 IST

Aspirants gunning for the prestigious Indian Institutes of Managements and other top B-schools are relieved that there are no major changes in the Common Admission Test or CAT 2016 exam, this year. Test experts are of the opinion that beneath this good news lies the possibility of changes in the type and quality of questions.

Srinivas Belvi, CAT course director, TIME, Bengaluru, a coaching institute, said that CAT 2016 definitely is good news for students since there are no major changes. However, there might be changes in the “type” and “quality” of questions.

“There have been no changes in the type of questions given for nearly 10 years now. It is likely that these changes may take place this time, especially since all other aspects of the test have remained the same,” said Belvi.

IIM aspirants like Sadashiva Purhipurun, an engineer, said that while he was relieved that no major announcements were made, he was adopting a cautious line.

“Since it is IIM Bangalore that is convening the exam, this time, I expect it to be difficult. I think that the questions will be more aligned to the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) rather than last year’s CAT,” said Sadashiva.

Last year, measures such as the inclusion of descriptive questions, use of on-screen calculator for computation were introduced for the first time along with increase in the duration of the test to 180 minutes.
