FM concerned over Bengaluru, Gurgaon gridlock

Last Updated 02 August 2016, 19:22 IST

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday expressed concern over situations of chaos and long traffic jams at the county’s two main IT cities of Gurgaon and Bengaluru.

“You can’t have two of India’s role model IT centres cities Gurgaon and Bengaluru facing the kind of situation which we have faced in the last 24 hours. After all, these are representatives of modern India globally,” the finance minister said, while delivering the first Dr A P J Abdul Kalam Memorial Lecture.

He said the government is emphasing on large concentration of investment in infrastructure sector.

Long tailbacks were witnessed in gridlocked roads in Gurgaon in the last two days due to severe waterlogging on NH-8 after heavy rain, leaving thousands stranded, forcing authorities to clamp prohibitory orders. However, the chock-a-block situation in Gurgaon eased on Tuesday, but the continuous downpour slowed vehicular movement on the main roads in the city.
