Two persons were killed in separate road accidents in the last 24 hours. In the first incident, Likith, a five-year-old boy, was knocked down by a Maruti Omni van at Pantharapalya, Janatha Colony in Bytarayanapura, on Thursday night.

Likith was a kindergarten student and was living with his father Prakash, a driver, and mother Divya, a private schoolteacher.

Likith was playing in front of his house around 8.45 pm. Sashi, who was at the wheel, was trying to drive uphill.

He lost control over the vehicle and the van began moving in the reverse direction and knocked down Likith. Hearing Likith’s screams, his parents and neighbours rushed out and found him lying in a pool of blood. They shifted him to a nearby private hospital where he was declared brought dead. The Byatarayanapura traffic police visited the spot and seized the vehicle, while Sashi fled the scene. Efforts are on to trace him, said the police.

In the second incident, a 70-year-old pedestrian was mowed down by a speeding cab near Palanahalli Gate on NH–7 near Yelahanka on Friday afternoon.

Channarayappa, a resident of Palanahalli, was crossing the road when the speeding cab knocked him down.

He suffered serious head injuries and died on the spot. Channarayappa was coming from Yelahanka when the incident occurred.

The Yelahanka traffic police inspected the spot and found that the cab driver, Jaya Krishna, who has been arrested, was speeding.

Jaya Krishna informed that the cab was meant to pick pilots from the Kempegowda International Airport.

Both the cases have been registered at the respective police station and investigation is on.
