Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Prathap Rudy on Monday said fight is on against the forces which are trying to weaken the country 70 years after it became independent.

Addressing BJP workers at the 70th Independence Day programme organised by the district BJP here, Rudy said, “The leaders in the forefront of freedom movement like Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore and Iqbal fought against the british in their own ways then. Now, the fight is against those who are trying to destabilise the country in a changed situation. But there is nothing to fret about as the country will stand united from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.”

On his visit to Mangaluru to be a part of Independence Day celebration, Rudy said: “I came down here only to acknowledge the role of a centenarian freedom fighter and communist leader K Madhavan, aged 102 years, in neighbouring Kasargod. As a representative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I honoured Madhavan on the eve of Independence Day.”

Rudy recalled the role of freedom fighters from coastal region and said Rani Abbakka revolted against Portugese who set foot in India much before the British. Karnad Sadashiv Rao from Mulki, K K Shetty and other leaders of the district fought vehemently for the country’s freedom, he added.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said, “Gone are the days when the world was eager to listen to US president. Now, Obama (US president) waits to hear our Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
