Home Minister G Parameshwara said that the incident of hurling eggs at former MP and actor Ramya at a programme in Mangaluru on Thursday, ‘does not suit the culture of Mangaluru.’

“Mangalureans are known for hospitality. The miscreants hurled eggs at Ramya in protest against the actor for praising Pakistan and for her reported comment calling ‘Mangaluru as a hell’,” said the minister.

To a query by mediapersons during his visit to the city police commissioner’s office for a review meeting on Friday, he said that nobody would have foreseen such an incident. “There are a few people who do such acts purposefully. Such incidents do not speak good of Mangaluru, which is marching ahead in terms of development and is considered the second biggest city in the state, next to only Bengaluru,” said Parameshwara.

“People should respect the perspective of the actress turned politician Ramya in terms of her opinion on Pakistan. There is no need to exaggerate her statements and it would be a welcome move if both India and Pakistan have cordial relationship. The Prime Minister had also invited his Pakistani counterpart during the former’s oath-taking ceremony. Hence, there seems nothing wrong over the statement issued by the actress turned politician. Ramya’s remark on the port city has nothing to do with his or party’s viewpoint,” said the minister, but declined to comment further.

On the Gaurakshaks taking law into hand, the minister said that the law will take its own course of action in connection with the Gaurakshaks. Those who take law into their hands will be dealt with sternly, he warned.

He said that nobody can violate the law. “Cow vigilantism issues have taken place in different parts of the country. If the centre implements a tough law by amending the existing law, then it will be well and good,” he said.

On IS links

“After 21 youth went missing from Kasargod following IS link, the Karnataka police are on alert. The internal security division of the Police Department is alert and vigil. If any organisation is found recruiting youth for IS, then strict action will be initiated against them,” said the home minister.

While asked about DySP M K Ganapathi’s suicide, Parameshwara said that the CID is yet to submit its report.

The home minister also said that he is committed to remove the orderlies in the police force. “An alternative arrangement would be made. The police officers, depending on their rank, would be provided personnel and group ‘D’ employees to undertake work in their residences. A proposal has been submitted to the Finance Department for recruitment of Group D personnel,” assured Parameshwara.

CID probe

The minister said that the murder case of billionaire industrialist Bhaskar Shetty is transferred to the CID in the backdrop of the slow pace of investigation conducted by the police in the initial stage. There were allegations that the case was handled in a ‘carefree’ manner in the beginning and that the enquiry was very slow, which led the DGP and him to hand over the case to the CID to investigate, explained the minister.

He said, “If there was any shortcoming or something wrong with the preliminary investigation, then it will be brought out by the CID. Ultimately, the truth has to come out and the guilty has to be punished,” adding, “I don’t say that the police have failed in performing the task, however, the initial information the department procured was at a slow pace. The CID has been instructed to complete the investigation and come to the conclusion at the earliest. The investigation process will still take its own time.”

Praveen Poojary case

Parameshwara said that if at all the innocents are arrested in connection with the BJP activist Praveen Poojary’s murder, the suspects would be acquitted immediately, which will be decided by the legal proceedings. “The Pejawar seer has not referred to anything regarding the Anti Cow Slaughter Act. The seer has expressed his lament over the incidents that are taking place in state and the country. The state government had no role in the recent murder of the BJP activist in Kokkarne,” he clarified.

Prayer at Kollur

The Minister said that he offered prayers to Goddess Mookambika at Kollur and Lord Krishna in Udupi, to save the state from the fear of impending drought.

He said that he would collect details over the allegations wherein the Energy Minister D K Shivakumar’s Parliamentarian brother had threatened police personnel and act further. The home minister added that he was ignorant about the allegations.
