New body needed to promote traditional medicine: Minister

Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers, Ananth Kumar said there was a need to form a World Organisation of Traditional Medicine under the World Health Organisation to promote traditional systems of medicine from across the world.

He spoke at the inauguration of the BRICS  Wellness Workshop in the city on Saturday. Kumar urged leaders from across the world to join hands and form the World
Organisation of Traditional Medicine under the umbrella of the World Health Organisation. He urged Minister for Ayush Sripad Yesso Naik to discuss this with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and moot the proposal.

Speaking about the World Yoga Day, Kumar said that it had helped put Ayush on an international platform.

The two-day BRICS Wellness of Workshop on September 10 and 11 is organised by the Ministry of Ayush, government of India as a run-up to the BRICS Summit scheduled in Goa on October 15 and 16.
