Akhilesh plans rath yatra from October 3

Last Updated 14 September 2016, 19:21 IST

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday announced his plan to undertake a rath yatra across the poll-bound state next month. This comes amid the ongoing firefighting attempts by Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav in the wake of an ‘all-out war’ between his younger brother Shivpal Singh Yadav and son Akhilesh.

The yatra, with the slogan ‘From development to victory’, will kick off from the state capital on October 3. “It is aimed at apprising the people about the developmental works undertaken by Akhilesh Yadav during his over four-year rule in the state,” SP leader Rajendra Chaudhary said.

Chaudhary said Akhilesh had undertaken a ‘kranti’ rath yatra in the state during the 2012 Assembly elections and had made certain promises to the people. “The people had then reposed their faith in Akhilesh and given him a massive mandate... now he will tell people that the promises have been fulfilled,” he said.

Incidentally, the song to be played during the rath yatra would have lyrics like ‘UP wants Akhilesh in 2017’.
