Around 22 garment factory employees escaped with minor injuries after the driver of a bus in which they were travelling lost control.

The bus went over the footpath and hit two parked bikes and came to a halt after running into a small shop in Halagevaderahalli Circle in Rajarajeshwari Nagar on Saturday.

The police said that around 8.10 am, the bus was on its way to a garment factory in Sunkadakatte after picking up the employees in Rajarajeshwari Nagar and surrounding areas. As the vehicle reached Halagevaderahalli Circle, the driver lost control over the bus.

He drove the bus over the footpath and hit two parked bikes and came to halt after running into a shop selling plastic and steel items.

The injured employees were shifted to R Channabasappa Hospital. All of them were given first-aid and sent back. Garment workers in the bus told the police that the driver was new as the regular driver was absent. He was driving in a reckless manner and did not pay heed to their request to go slow, they said. To avoid hitting a vehicle in the front, he steered the bus to the right. While doing this, he lost control and drove over the footpath.

“Fortunately, the shop was closed and there were no one on the footpath when the incident took place. The driver fled the spot, abandoning the bus. The owner of the bus, Natesan, has been contacted and was asked to visit the police station with the necessary documents and to provide details about the driver. The bus was hired by the garment factory to pick up and drop their employees,” said a senior police officer.
