Last Updated 27 September 2016, 18:59 IST

The farmers and members of various Kannada organisations and political parties staged a protest  against the Supreme Court’s directive to release 6,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for the next three days.

They blocked the Mysuru-Bengaluru highway at Mandya, Maddur and Srirangapatna and vented their ire against the apex court’s  order.

The members of JD(S), BJP, Congress, Raitha Sangha, Kannada Sene, Kranthi Yuva Shakti gathered on the highway and raised slogans against the Supreme Court and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

They demanded that the state government should not succumb to the pressure and release water to Tamil Nadu. It should safeguard the people of the state, they demanded.

They also demanded that Kannada film ‘Dodmane Huduga’, starring actor Ambarish, should not be screened in Mandya, as he had not extended support to the people of the district over the Cauvery issue.

Cauvery Raitha Hitharakshana Samithi president G Madegowda warned of laying siege to the Krisnaraja Sagar dam if water is released to Tamil Nadu from the dam. The key of the dam would be snatched from the officials by force. Water should not be released even if the government is dismissed, he insisted.
