Master plan for Nandi Hills soon

Last Updated 06 October 2016, 21:13 IST

The Karnataka Tourism department is preparing a master plan to develop and promote Nandi Hills. The master plan includes development of various circuits — heritage, eco- friendly, sporting, religious — as a getaway destination.

Tourism Minister Priyank Kharge said that the master plan was being prepared by involving the forest, horticulture and public works departments besides Archaeological Survey of India. The Tipu and Kempegowda forts near Nandi Hills and Bhoga Nandishwara temple at Nandi village will be integrated into the circuit.

An official in the tourism department said at least 4,000 people visit Nandi Hills every day. “There have been complaints by tourists on poor security system and other facilities atop the hill. We have set aside Rs 5 crore to improve the facilities,’’ an official said.

Due to the Cauvery issue, fewer tourists boarded the Golden Chariot and used Akash Ambari, a Dasara special air connectivity service, Kharge said. The occupancy for Golden Chariot was 65% and in case of air services it was 60%. Some flights were altogether cancelled. In case of Golden Chariot, bookings of October 1, 3 and 5 had to be cancelled due to lack of required number of international guests, a tourism official added.
