Bizman remains mum on 'big fish'

Last Updated 05 December 2016, 20:06 IST
The suspense over the much-awaited names of “big” people on whose behalf property dealer Mahesh Shah had declared Rs 13,860 crore under Income Declaration Scheme (IDS) remained unresolved on Monday. Shah, who said last Saturday that he would announce the names to Income Tax officials, is yet to make the revelations, despite over 14 hours of interrogation in the last three days.

The I-T officials on Monday said that the 67-year-old businessman failed to provide any information on the IDS. Director General of Investigation, I-T, Gujarat, P C Modi said that Shah was in fact not cooperating with them. Despite opportunities given to him, he has neither provided any worthwhile information nor produced any evidence in support of his claims.

More time sought
On the contrary, he has sought more time from the department on the ground of his wife’s illness. We have given him additional 2-3 days’ time,’’ Modi said. The Ahmedabad-based property dealer is now involved in another controversy. On Sunday night, he was apparently taken to his daughter’s house in a police uniform.

According to information available, the police inspector in-charge  of Satellite police station in Ahmedabad, made Shah wear the police uniform to protect his identity, but, without consulting his seniors. As a result, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner A K Singh sought details into the incident. However, state DGP P P Pandey on Monday tried to make light of the incident.

“It may have been done to camouflage... like at times, some are made to wear burqa!” Pandey told mediapersons in Surat.
