The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) in Kerala on Friday registered a FIR against former minister and senior CPM leader E P Jayarajan in connection with appointment of a relative in a key position in a public sector undertaking during his tenure as minister for industries and sports.

The VACB presented the FIR at the vigilance court here after a quick verification probe into allegations of nepotism against Jayarajan that also led to his resignation as minister in October last year.

The controversy hit the veteran leader from Kannur in the wake of alleged nepotism in the appointment of P K Sudheer – son of Jayarajan’s sister-in-law and CPM MP from Kannur P K Sreemathy – as the Managing Director of Kerala State Industrial Enterprises (KSIE) Ltd., a state government undertaking under the Industries Department.
The appointment triggered a row following allegations that it was also cleared w
ithout following the prescribed norms.
