The officials of Women and Narcotics wing of Central Crime Branch on Wednesday busted a prostitution racket in Ejipura and rescued 14 women including one from Bangladesh.

The police arrested Deepu Mandal, Soumen Roy, Tarun Gosh, Sujit Sarkar, Achintya Majumdar, Sanjay Sil, Sorab Ali and Joshna Mondal, all from West Bengal on charges of immoral trafficking.

“Based on credible information, raids were conducted on five houses in Ejipura, where the women were kept in confinement. The suspects revealed that the women were trafficked from West Bengal and Bangladesh. They were threatened and forced into prostitution. The women were working in various massage parlours in the city and were on the  watch by the suspects who ensured that they did not flee the place or approach the police,” said a senior police officer.

These women were assured of lucrative jobs and brought to the city. Once they were handed over to the suspects by the agents, they pushed them into prostitution. It is suspected that a big gang is behind the racket.

The police are also investigating whether these women were abducted, added the officer. A case has been registered in Viveknagar police station.
