The provision stands nullified with the extinction of caste system. “Equality is a mirage in a caste-ridden society. Reservation has been provided for in the Constitution with the objective of heralding equality,” she postulated.<br /><br />While the society is divided on the financial status of citizens in western countries, the Indian society is fractured on the basis of multiple factors. A major chunk of the society has been the victim of subjugation, the Speaker noted. <br /><br />She expressed pleasure that it was during her tenure as Speaker that the Parliament approved the Constitutional amendment extending reservation for ten more years.<br />Lauding Karnataka for the rapid strides in information technology, she said the State is also in the vanguard of eradicating social evils.<br /><br />Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah, Murugha mutt seer, Balagangadharanatha swamiji were present.<br /><br /></p>
