Last Updated 20 January 2017, 19:24 IST

Research scholars of the Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC) in the city boycotted the Founder’s Day celebration and protested against institute director Prof M G Chandrakanth on Friday. The scholars boycotted proceedings between 9 am and 5 pm.

According to sources in the institute, some changes introduced by the director regarding monthly stipend and other new regulations did not go down well with the research scholars.

The scholars were opposed to the director’s mandate on bio-metric system. Researchers claimed that the director wanted all to punch in on the bio-metric attendance. A protester said, “The institute had recently withheld fellowship amount accorded to scholars for 15 days because they did not attend a Bi-annual seminar. Further, medical reimbursements were also insufficient.”
