A contestant in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls reportedly got his brother killed in order to gain “sympathy” of the electorate and win the polls.

Manoj Gautam, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) nominee from the Khurja Assembly constituency, and an accomplice were arrested on Wednesday.

According to the police, Manoj had hatched a conspiracy to kill his brother Vinod Gautam on the advice of a friend. Manoj was over head and ears in debt and wanted to win the elections under any circumstances in order to repay the loans.

One of his friends advised him to get a family member killed and thereby gain sympathy of the public.
On Monday evening, Manoj called Vinod to his election camp office at Khurja, where two hired killers were waiting.

Vinod and his friend Sachin were taken to a nearby forest and shot dead at point-blank range, the police said.
The bullet-riddled bodies were recovered on Tuesday.According to the police, the pistol used in the shooting was also recovered, and they are in possession of an audio clip, in which Manoj is heard discussing the murder plan with one of the assassins.

Manoj, however, refuted the charges, saying he is being falsely implicated by the BSP candidate from the seat, Arjun Singh.
