Mahadayi stir: Rs 7 lakh relief for victims

The state government on Tuesday submitted to the Karnataka High Court that an amount of Rs 7.05 lakh has been ordered to be distributed among the victims of police caning (lathi charge) in Yamanur village in Dharwad district during the Mahadayi agitation.

Justice A N Venugopala Gowda had pulled up the government for not taking action against officials for caning the villagers. The government took action and also ordered to pay a compensation of Rs 7, 05, 250 to the victims at Yamanur, Alagawadi and Arekurahatti villages. The judge has been hearing the petition seeking directions to set up State Police Complaints Authority and District Police Complaint Authority in the state.
