Thief caught after chase; 2 escape

Two constables attached to the Girinagar police station, who were manning a check point, chased and caught a thief who was trying to escape with two other accomplices on a bike.

The incident was reported from D’Souza Nagar on March 31. It was only after catching him did the police come to know that he was part of a gang that had struck at three houses and had stolen valuables the same night. Head constable Krishnappa and constable Umesh were felicitated and rewarded by city police commissioner Praveen Soon on Tuesday.

Krishnappa and Umesh were on duty at a check point near Skyline Apartment in Girinagar when a trio on a black Pulsar bike came that way. On seeing the police, the three tried to speed away. As the policemen began to chase them, the driver lost control over the bike and the trio fell down. The policemen managed to catch one of them, identified as Gajji alias Bharath (23), a resident of Kempegowda Nagar.

The police grilled him and got information about his two accomplices, both of them going by the name Girish — one a resident of Hanumanthanagar and the other from Rishikeshnagar in Hosakerehalli. The police gathered clues about the two and detected three cases in which the trio were involved on the same day.
