Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has issued a circular to principals of all colleges affiliated to it, prescribing dos and don’ts during the ongoing Local Inquiry Committee (LIC) inspection visit.

The committee inspects colleges to assess their infrastructure, teaching-learning facilities, etc.

The directions have been introduced to enable transparency of the inspection process and to ensure that it is unbiased. It instructs that the college shall not, under any circumstance, make any arrangements for travel, stay or local transportation for the visiting team, as the VTU would take care of it. Further, it says representatives of the college should not meet members of the LIC outside the college premises or at their place of stay. No gifts are to be offered to the visiting team and no special function or entertainment programme should be hosted for them, the circular says.

VTU vice chancellor Karisiddappa said they have issued the circular to bring in transparency in their activities. He added that they have modified the guidelines for the information to be furnished by the colleges. "AICTE asks colleges to submit details online and they also have to submit similar information to the VTU. We have modified the guidelines so that there is no difference between the two," he said. This data includes land details, number of classrooms, computers, details of books and journals in the college, payscale of teaching staff, etc.
