Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje on Wednesday instructed the officials to supply drinking water at least once in three days to ensure water to people and livestock.

Presiding over a meeting to review progress of Centre-sponsored schemes and programmes here, the MP said that with the district reeling under drought, people and cattle are facing acute drinking water crisis. To meet the demand, water should be supplied once in three days against supplying 200 litres of water once in a week in the present scenario.

In addition to this, Gau Shaalas should be opened on priority and measures should be initiated to distribute fodder through fodder banks up to one-and-half month. It would serve no purpose, in case of any delay in creating the facilities, the MP pointed out.

She also instructed officials to create basic infrastructural facilities in sync with people’s demand at Daradalli gram panchayat limits under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana. Of the total 28 works taken up in particular panchayat limits, 17 have been completed, while six are underway.

The remaining five works should be started and completed at the earliest.

On the implementation of Central government-sponsored schemes and programmes, the MP asked the officials to identify land required for implementation of Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme, one of the ambitious schemes of the government to improve drinking water and other basic amenities.

Issuing a stern warning to officials to hold them accountable, if they fail in effective implementation of Amrut scheme, the MP said the officials are duty-bound to take the benefits to doorsteps of the people with the government sanctioning adequate funds for the implementation of various projects.

A dedicated in-charge committee should be formed for the implementation of the scheme and work in tandem with officials of other departments, MP told officials.

Additional Deputy Commissioner M L Vaishali, AC Sangappa, ZP deputy secretary Rajagopal and district-level implementation officers from other departments were present.
