BMRCL in talks with NICE for land to build Metro stations

Last Updated 09 May 2017, 19:14 IST
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) officials are holding meetings with Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) authorities to ensure that Metro lines, which connect the NICE Road at five places, will not lead to any confusion in future.

Under Phase 2, Metro lines will meet or cross the NICE peripheral ring road at four points. Mysuru Road-Kengeri (Reach 2), Nagasandra-BIEC (Reach 3), Puttenahalli-Anjanapura (Reach 4) and R V Road-Bommasandra (Reach 5) lines cross the peripheral road while the Gottigere-Nagawara Metro line ends before meeting the NICE Road.

“We have sought land from NICE to build Metro stations at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) on Tumakuru Road and Electronics City (RV Road-Bommasandra). We will provide parking facilities at these places similar to other stations,” said BMRCL managing director Pradeep Singh Kharola.

A spokesperson for Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise said that they were expecting BMRCL to build a multi-level parking lot at BIEC Metro station.

“It will allow commuters to park their vehicles and use Metro to travel in the city,” they said. BMRCL plans to complete Phase 2 by 2020. Metro lines at or near the peripheral roads will help those coming to Bengaluru, to park their vehicles at the stations and travel to the city by skipping the traffic-choked roads.
