A 46-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself at his house in Rajarajeshwarinagar on Saturday. The deceased, Amarnath Nagaraju, a resident of Gattigere Layout, was suffering from depression, the police said.

The incident came to light on Saturday morning when Nagaraju’s wife and daughters, who were sleeping in another room, went to his room to check on him. They found him hanging from a ceiling fan. The police suspect that Nagaraju could have taken the extreme step on Friday night.

The shocked family informed their neighbours, who in turn alerted the police. The police rushed to the spot and shifted the victim’s body to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem. There was no suicide note found, the police said.

Nagaraju had stopped going to work for a year. He was an introvert, quiet and kept to himself. Depression may have driven him to take the extreme step, the police said. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Rajarajeshwarinagar police station.
