Last Updated 26 May 2017, 20:13 IST
A farmer who was an alleged victim of police excesses that took place post the Mahadayi verdict in July last year at Navalgund, breathed his last at a private hospital in Dharwad on Friday.

The deceased farmer has been identified as Racchayya Horaginmath (31), a native of Alagwadi in Navalgund taluk.

He was married a year ago and is survived by wife and parents. A large number of people gathered to pay homage after his body arrived in Navalgund. The mortal remains were placed on the stage where the farmers had been holding protests for Mahadayi. The body later was taken to his native place.

The family members have alleged that Racchayya was tortured while he was lodged in the jail in Chitradurga and he could not recover from the physical assault.
