Union Finance and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday said the Narendra Modi regime had ushered in an era wherein political parties have to perform or perish.

Speaking at ‘Sab ke Saath, Sab ka Vikas’ convention in Bengaluru organised by the BJP City unit to mark three years of the Modi government, Jaitley said political parties which have practising caste or dynastic politics for electoral gains have been routed.

He said the hallmark of the NDA government during the last three years has been its credibility.

“People trust Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hence his popularity is still on the rise. People today acknowledge that they have a decisive leader to steer the country towards development,” Jaitley said.

He said that Modi “forced” the decision of demonetisation on the country.

“There was criticism...experts said the move will take the country back in time... but today the tax ayers base has increased and is still on the rise, tax evasion has been curbed and a digital economy has been put in place,” he said.

The minister said it is dangerous to deal with cash for its leaves a footprint.

“The Congress diaries in Karnataka (reportedly having details of payments made by state leaders to high command) is a case it point,” he said.

Jaitley said with the GST regime coming into effect from July 1 in the country will have a uniform market and march the league of developed nations.

He said the last three years also witnessed corruption being rooted out, seizure of benami properties and rise of a new India.
