Lalu's older son Tej younger to Tejaswi, states affidavit to EC

Last Updated 04 June 2017, 19:08 IST

Is Lalu Prasad’s older son Tej Pratap younger to his youngest son Tejaswi Yadav?  It appears so, even though the RJD maintained that the goof-up in the affidavits could be a clerical error.

The issue would not have raised eyebrows had ‘intermediate topper’ Ganesh Kumar not been arrested and sent to jail on charges of manipulating his age.

Lalu’s sons, both ministers in the Nitish Kumar cabinet, would not have hit the headlines on Sunday had their affidavits not caught the attention of BJP leaders.

While Tejaswi is the deputy chief minister, Tej handles the health and forest and environment portfolios. According to the affidavits submitted before the poll panel on the eve of the 2015 Bihar Assembly election, Tejaswi, a school dropout, is 26 years, while Tej is 25.

Despite the RJD’s attempts at damage control, the BJP was quick to gun for the scalp of Lalu’s sons.  “If an intermediate topper, Ganesh Kumar, who has written his exams well, can be arrested for furnishing wrong information about his age, why should the Nitish government not take any action against Lalu’s sons for submitting incorrect information  about their age to the Election Commission?” asked senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi.
