Last Updated 05 June 2017, 19:12 IST
State BJP spokesperson Vaman Acharya has courted controversy following his comments on cow slaughter in a TV discussion which went against the ideology of the BJP.

The BJP, on Monday, made Acharya tender a public apology and withdraw his statement. Acharya, who was recently appointed as spokesperson by the state BJP, during a panel discussion on a TV channel, said he did not subscribe to the religious sentimentality attached to cows. While Acharya supported the Centre’s notification on the ban on sale of cows for slaughter at animal markets, he said, people from all communities, including Brahmins, consumed beef.

Acharya also said as chairman of the Karnataka Pollution Control Board, he had given permission for the setting up of six abattoirs in the state.
