The government informed the high court on Thursday that the procedure to seek sanction for prosecuting former members and chairperson of Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) was under way.

A division bench comprising Justice H G Ramesh and Justice John Michael Cunha asked the government whether it was serious about prosecuting the accused for irregularities in selecting candidates for the posts of gazetted probationers.

Hearing a PIL by T J Abraham, who has sought directions to the governor to frame guidelines in appointing the chairperson and members to KPSC, the bench asked the government to inform the court about the action taken to prosecute the members on June 15.

The CID which had filed a report against the then members and chairperson is in the process of approaching the President of India for sanction to prosecute those accused of irregularities. Additional Advocate General A S Ponnanna said the entire procedure would take around three weeks.
