Lok Sabha member R Dhruvanarayan said on Tuesday that 166 villages in Chamarajanagar taluk and 131 villages in Gundlupet taluk, will get drinking water by August 2017.

Speaking to reporters, after inspecting the Thayuru jackwell unit at T Narasipur taluk in Mysuru district, and the multi-village drinking water project at Ummathuru, Chamarajanagar taluk, he said, 90% of the works at Ummathuru is complete and it is hoped that the works would be finished by July 31.

He would hold discussion with the district in-charge minister and legislators in this regard and the project would be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the first or second week of August, he added.

Multi-village drinking water project was launched in December 2014. With the works nearing completion, the authorities concerned have been directed to expedite the works, the MP said.

Due to shortage of sand and labourers and the delay in releasing of funds, the project has been delayed by 15 months. Around 36 villages have been supplied water on pilot basis, he said. After implementation of the project, the drinking water crisis of various parts of the district will be solved. Santhemarahalli, Basavatti, Kavudavadi, Deshavalli and Heggavadipura villages had not been included under the project. Based on the opinion of the local elected representatives and officials, the villages have been included and the works will be completed by July 31, he said.

MLA S Jayanna, ZP President M Ramchandra, Taluk Panchayat president H V Chandru, and APMC president B K Ravikumar were present.
