UP govt cornered on law and order issue

Last Updated 18 July 2017, 19:18 IST
Members of the Opposition parties on Monday sought to corner the Uttar Pradesh government on the “deteriorating law and order situation” and disrupted the proceedings of the House.

Members of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress said that the government had failed to ensure safety of people in the state and that the crime graph had shot up under the BJP regime.

SP leader Ram Govind Chaudhary said that incidents of murders, rapes and robberies had increased manifold since the BJP government took charge of the state.

Congress member Ajai Kumar staged a dharna in the Well of the House to register his protest. The government claimed that the crime incidents had declined but the Opposition members continued their protest. Later, the Congress and SP members staged a walkout in the House.

The Opposition members also raised the recent fire incident at the trauma centre in KG Medical University in which five patients were killed.
