Kids take ill after eating midday meal in Gubbi village

Eight children were rushed to government hospital in Gubbi as they tool ill after consuming mid-day meal at Peddanahalli Government Primary School on Wednesday.

The students, as usual, had rice and sambar for lunch at the school. Eight students, including six girls, who started eating a bit early than others, soon complained of vomiting and nausea.

The teaching and non-teaching staff of the school rushed the children to Kadaba Primary Healthcare Centre, where they were administered first aid before being shifted to the government hospital in Gubbi.

The teachers, as a precautionary measure, subjected the remaining 35 students to tests. Taluk health officer Bindumadhava and medical officer Dr Devananda told Deccan Hearld, "The children have felt uneasy after eating spicy sambar. They are being treated at Gubbi government hospital and are recovering fast."

Tahsildar S L Vishwanath, EO Shivaprakash, Akshara Dasoha Officer Yogananda visited the hospital and enquired the well-being of the children.

Haraprasad, a resident of the village, poured out his woes to Deccan Herald, "The panchayat authorities have not bothered to take up cleanliness. The village is under the grip of dengue.

“The children are taking ill due to consumption of contaminated water. The TP executive officer is not paying attention to the problems faced by the village.”
