Deputy Commissioner Dr K V Trilok Chandra warned officials that strict action will be taken against them if the funds, released for Scheduled Castes Sub-Plan and Tribal Sub-Plan (SCP and STP) programmes, go back to the government without being utilised.

Reviewing the progress of the implementation of SCP and STP programmes he said 35% of the district’s population belong to Scheduled Castes and Schedule Tribes and the government has released sufficient grants for their development.

He said the officials should work for the effective implementation of the government’s programmes aimed at providing basic facilities to the people belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. They should ensure that no illegalities take place in the selection of beneficiaries. The government’s facilities should reach the eligible beneficiaries. “You can bring the problems, if any, to either my or the Zilla Panchayat CEO’s notice,” he told the officials.

Trilok Chandra said action plans should be prepared as per the guidelines of the Social Welfare Department. Later, the beneficiaries should be selected and steps should be taken to provide facilities, he said adding that this year’s grants should not be used for old works. The grants should be used for the works implemented in respective years, he stated.

Officials taken to task
The DC took the officials of Ambedkar Corporation to task for not starting the construction work of halls for the benefit of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Sites have been provided for the purpose. “What is the problem in inviting tenders soon and starting the work?” he questioned them.

Scholarship
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer B B Kaveri said the scholarship dues of 2013-14 and 2014-15 should be deposited to the bank accounts of students as per the government rules. The officials should provide information on how much money is needed. The taluk-level officials should distribute the scholarship, he added.

Social welfare department joint director Jayanna said the grants, released under SCP and STP, have been alloted to different departments in the first phase. In-charge DDPI K G Rangaiah and deputy director of the department of women and child development K H Bhaskar took part in the meeting.
