She believes in affordable fashion for the modern Indian woman. In a chat with Surupasree Sarmmah, the designer talks about her wardrobe staples and more.<br /><br />How did you decide to become a fashion designer?<br />I was into painting and sketching from my childhood and I knew that I had to do something with my design skills. About 10 years back, I started taking part in exhibitions and showcasing my clothes and accessories. The positive feedback I received from people made it clear that this was my calling. So, I took the next step and here I am today. <br /><br />What are your wardrobe staples...<br />A white shirt, well-fitted pair of denims, a blazer, a black dress and nude pumps.<br /><br />Tell us about your festive collection...<br />I have worked with traditional weaves like ‘Banarasi’, ‘Lucknowi’ and ‘Mukesh’. The collection aims at the modern Indian woman. It is a fusion of traditional and chic designs. It comprises of ‘lehenga-cholis’, ‘anarkalis’ and crop tops.<br /> <br />What does your label tell about you as a designer?<br />My designs are light-weight and delicate and not the heavy duty embroidery.<br /><br />Your forte is...<br />Trousseau wear.<br /><br />A trend you never liked...<br />Bell-bottoms and cocktail gowns with embroidery.<br /><br />A designer you would like to work with...<br />Sabyasachi Mukherji.<br /><br />The most stylish celebrity according to you...<br />Dimple Kapadia.
