Rajiv Bansal new Air India Chairman

Senior IAS officer Rajiv Bansal will be the new chairman and managing director of Air India.

Bansal holds the posts of additional secretary and financial adviser in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. His position with the national carrier will be in addition to this.

Bansal’s appointment comes as the current chairman, Ashwani Lohani, was made the Railway Board chairman. The appointment is for three months, sources said.

Before being moved to the Ministry of Petroleum and and Natural Gas, Bansal served in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). He was looking after Digital Payments, IT Act, Aadhaar and internet governance in MeitY.

A civil engineer who had graduated from IIT-Delhi in 1986, Bansal had also served as joint secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation and had been Director in Air India till September 2007.
