Bus-bike collision: Rider dies, bus turns turtle

About 15 persons have suffered injuries in the mishap. The deceased has been identified as Yakshith Poojary, a resident of Mulihitlu near Bolar. He was riding his bike towards city from Ullal, after attending a marriage function. Poojary had recently come home from Gulf on leave. 

After the bus hit the bike, the bus driver lost control over the vehicle and it turned turtle, injuring all the passengers. The bus was bound to Kerala.

Man held

Excise officials arrested Pius Cutinho, the prime accused in several illicit liquor cases at Nadukudru, on Thursday late night. He was wanted in six cases in Kavoor police station and excise department. He was known for illicit liquor manufacturing at Thokur, Kuloor and Maravoor. He was good at escpaing during the ride by jumping to water. He was produced before the court which remanded him to judicial custody till April 20.

Man killed

In another incident, a person was killed when a jeep hit a tree at Padukumeru in Marodi village of Belthangady on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Anand Devadiga. A case has been registered.

Temple hundi stolen

Some unidentified miscreants have decamped with four hundis at Baddakatte Nithyananda Bhajana Mandira in Bantwal. The priest had locked the mandira after pooja on Thursday at 8 pm. The incident came to light when the priest had come for pooja at 6 am. The empty hundi was found in river Nethravathi later.
