According to a press release, this is the highest quantity of urea ever handled at the port in a day from a vessel by surpassing the earlier record of 8,507 metric tonnes of urea handled on February 17, 2006.

The vessel was berthed at the Port on May 30 with 23,674 metric tonnes                        of urea from Oman for M/s Krishak Bharati Co-operative Ltd, (KRIBHCO), Bangalore, for distribution among the local farmers of Karnataka.

NMPT Chairman P Tamilvanan attributed the reasons as increased number of warehouses, increased number of railway lines for faster turn round time of rakes, trained and skilled port and dock workers and proper planning and co-ordination with port related agencies for the record handling in the port.

He has also stated that the developmental works undertaken recently by the Port will enhance the capacity to attract more cargo through New Mangalore Port.
