Man hacked to death, 1 injured in Ullal

Two miscreants murdered a man and fatally assaulted another, near Mukkaccheri Masjid in Ullal on Wednesday night.

The deceased identified as Zubair (39), is a resident of Hyder Ali Road of Mukkaccheri. The assailants, who came on a motorbike, attacked Zubair with sharp-edged weapons when he was coming out of the mosque after finishing his evening prayers. Iliyas, a passerby, attempted to intervene, but he was injured seriously after the attackers hit his hands and legs with weapons. They fled the spot soon after committing the crime. Zubair succumbed to serious head injuries. Iliyas has been admitted to a hospital in Thokkottu.

Zubair was working as an electrician at a fish-meal industry in Ullal. Zubair had supported the persons who had lodged a complaint at Ullal police station, against a notorious criminal of Ullal, a few years ago. This is said to be the reason for his murder. Zubair had received death threat by the accomplices of the criminals earlier. Attempts were held to broker peace by holding talks.
