No breakthrough in kidnap case

In spite of the efforts of the police, abductors who kidnapped Safwan (24), a resident of 8th block in Chokkabettu, Katipalla near Suratkal, have remained untraced so far.

A press release from the police said that Safwan was forcibly taken away by miscreants on October 5 in a vehicle bearing registration No KA 20 MA 2844.

Five persons had taken Safwan away in a vehicle at about 6 pm on October 5. Based on the information from an eye witness, Abdul Hameed, father of Safwan, had filed a complaint in Surathkal station on October 5. The police have now released the photos of the abductors of Safwan— Samshuddin from Mukka, Safwan Hussain from Suratkal, Faizal alias Toppi Faizal and Shahil from Surathkal and Sufian from Ballari.

Safwan is of wheatish complexion with normal built, black hair with a mustache on his face. He can speak in Kannada, Tulu and Beary languages, police said. People with any information about him or his abductors have been requested to inform Surathkal police station 0824-2220540 or DCPs 9480802304 or 9480802305 or control room - 0824-2220800.

Man caught with ganja

A man travelling abroad from Mangalruu city was caught with 4 kg of ganja by officials at Mangaluru International Airport here on Friday.

The arrested is Abhilash Prateesh Suvarna, a resident of Manjeshwara. Prateesh was caught before boarding the Air India Express. It was said he had purchased ganja from a man in Kottakkal. A case has been registered.

CCB sleuths nab seven

The Mangaluru CCB police arrested seven persons who were making an attempt to rob near people Big Bazaar at Bejai in Mangaluru city.

Acting on a tip-off that a group of six to seven youths on three bikes were making an attempt to rob a few persons, the CCB sleuths arrested seven persons. The arrested include Pritham Poojary (23), a resident of Kappigudde near Kavoor; Vishal Kumar (23), a resident of KHB Colony in Kunjatbail; Gautam Devadiga (23), a resident of Derebail Konchadi; Vinod Raj (21), a resident of Moodushedde; Divakar (29), also a resident of Moodushedde; Pravin (25), a resident of Thokkottu and Karthik (25), a resident of Yeyyadi.

Police seized weapons, three bikes and six mobile phones. It is said the robbery plan was hatched as per the directions of Akashbhavan Sharan alias Rohidas, who is in district prison as an undertrial.

Among the arrested, Pritham has robbery cases against him at Mangalore East, Barke and Kavoor police stations, besides three cases of Haftha money threat and two cases registered against Vishal Kumar in Kavoor and Barke police stations.

Booked for overstaying

Raji Raqeeb Babatunde, aged 26 years, a former student of Master of Occupational Therapy at Manipal School of Allied Sciences, a Nigerian national, was booked by Manipal police under Foreigners’ Act for over staying in India.

He has been awarded judicial custody till October 30.
