Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said that he would write to the Ministry of External Affairs to reclaim the swords of Kittur Rani Chennamma and Sangolli Rayanna from the museums in England.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the Kittur Rani Chennamma Jayanti in Bengaluru, Siddaramaiah said that he would direct the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes to include the Panchamasali Lingayat community under the 2A category of the backward classes.

He said that the government would examine the proposal to install Rani Chennamma’s statue in Bengaluru.

Siddaramaiah said that his government was not trying to politicise the jayanti celebrations, as was being alleged by his detractors. This is the first time that the government has organised the jayanti celebrations.
