Man held for blackmailing colleague

The Commercial Street police have arrested a 30-year-old employee of a private institute for allegedly blackmailing his colleague for sexual favours and money.

Based on her complaint, the police have arrested Narayana Prabhu. The police produced him before a magistrate and he was remanded to judicial custody.

According to police, Prabhu works for an institute that trains young job aspirants to work in aviation, hospitality and travel management fields. He lured a newly woman employee and promised her roles in movies  advertisements.

The accused then clicked photographs of the woman on the pretext of creating a glamorous portfolio and later started blackmailing the victim demanding sexual favours and money from her. He also used to send lewd Whatsapp messages to her on many occasions.

Prabhu even threatened her saying he would morph her pictures and upload it on the Internet. He also told her that he would call and inform her family members about the same.

Unable to bear harassment, the victim approached the police following which a complaint was lodged and the accused was picked up.

In her complaint to police, the victim alleged, Prabhu demanded her either give Rs. 3 lakh or sexual favours in exchange of the portfolio.

The police have arrested Prabhu under sections IPC 354 - assault or using criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, 385 - putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion and 509 - word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman.
