Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Saturday said the city's roads are riddled with potholes because of unprecedented rain in the last 130 years.

"It is natural that rains will cause damage to roads and other infrastructure, we are doing our best and are on the right track," said Reddy.

The home minister was speaking on the occasion of laying the foundation stone for the CAR buildings in Ullal, west Bengaluru on Saturday.

Reddy said the government had sanctioned Rs 3,750 crore for road development in the city after coming to power.

Of this, Rs 1,750 crore has been spent so far.

The government is also working on long term solutions for roads like concretisation, to make them last for at least three to four decades, he said.

George's resignation

Reddy took a dig at the opposition BJP for seeking Minister K J George's resignation and said that 11 Central ministers are facing criminal cases. By the same yardstick, all of them should resign, he said.

When the first FIR was registered, George had already tendered his resignation once and the chief minister had taken him back.
