Recalling his DG-IGP appointment on January 31, this year, outgoing state police chief R K Dutta said "I remember saying I was a man in a hurry having a stint of nine months, and whatever best I could do, I did, and I am satisfied with my work."

Dutta thanked all his subordinates who supported him in all his endeavours and thanked the government for giving him an opportunity to serve as the state's police chief. He wished that his successor Neelamani would continue to take forward his police welfare schemes and reform measures such as introduction of new beat system, empowering constabulary, entrusting investigative powers with police constables and assistant sub-inspectors among others.

Dutta's family members were present during the baton handing-over ceremony. Having an experience of 36 years, Dutta started as ASP Davangere and worked in various positions including Central Bureau of Investigation.
