BJP takes offence to Kamal Haasan's Hindu terror remark

Last Updated 02 November 2017, 20:45 IST

Kamal Haasan is trying to join the ranks of Congress leader P Chidambaram and Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed, who malign Hindu community for Muslim appeasement, the BJP has said.

Hitting out at the actor for his "Hindu terror" remark in his weekly column in a Tamil magazine, BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao said Haasan is possibly angling to become the extension of the Congress party.

"There has been a tendency in this country we have seen in the past decade how Sonia Gandhi-Rahul Gandhi led Congress party drew a strategy of maligning the Indian society and Hindu community only to appease the Muslim vote bank," Rao told a news agency.

"It was done by the former home minister P Chidambaram and Congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde -saying it on the floor of Parliament that there is Hindu terror in this country.

"When Kamal Haasan makes similar comments, he is actually joining the ranks of P Chidambaram and Hafiz Saeed," Rao said, wondering how Haasan had turned a blind eye to the 'Red terror' perpetrated by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in Kerala.

He also accused Haasan of approaching the issue from a narrow perspective and indulging in cheap politics, which, he hoped, people of Tamil Nadu would reject.
