Following the endorsement of the motion for formation of ward committees in the BBMP council, Lanchamukta Karnataka Nirmana Vedike, an NGO, has decided challenge the move in court.
On October 31, BBMP council approved the formation of ward committees for the for the existing 198 wards.
According to objections filed by Katyayini Chamaraj, a representative of the vedike, names of most members that have been included in the ward committee list are either friends or belong to corporators' families. "This will not purpose any purpose," she said.
When contacted, BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said, "On what basis should I revise the list? There are no specifications in the KMC Act that refers to inclusion of members. We have passed it before the council following a court order."
