Two cops suspended for letting off gamblers

 Two policemen attached to Mahadevapura police station were suspended for letting gamblers off without bringing it to the notice of the senior officers on Saturday. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield) Abdul Ahad suspended assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Amrutesh and head constable Jayakiran.  

The DCP has also directed assistant commissioner of-police of Marathahalli sub-division to conduct a departmental inquiry against the duo.

Speaking to DH, a senior police officer said, "The suspended policemen were part of the team led by police sub-inspector Ashwath. Their job is to conduct raids on illegal gambling dens in Mahadevapura area."

On Saturday, at around 6 pm, the trio conducted a raid at A Narayanapura and arrested 10 people including local residents Prakash, Nalluraiah, Suresh and seized Rs 2.5 lakh.

"As Ashwath had some work, he sent Amrutesh and Jayakiran along with the arrested people to the police station and complete the formalities. After two hours when he returned to the station, he was shocked to know that the duo had released  the accused and entered in the station house diary that only Rs 42,500 was seized in the gambling raid,'' the senior officer said.
