Demonetisation or note ban, an initiative by PM Narendra Modi to curb black money and to encourage the agenda of digital India, was announced abruptly one fine evening a year ago. 

The government's bold measure was met with both criticism and support but after a year, some supporters have turned sceptics. 

In the initial few months, there was chaos across the country especially for the poor and the daily wage workers. People waiting at ATMs to withdraw money or long queues at the bank to change the demonetised currency was a common sight during the period.
