Mahamastakabhisheka: Substation to ensure continuous power supply

To ensure uninterrupted power supply during the Mahamastakabhisheka, scheduled to be held in February 2018, the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation (KPTCL) is setting up a separate power substation at Manjunathapur near here.

The works on the station with a capacity to supply 66/11 kilowatt (KV) electricity, is coming up on 2.10 acres of land at a cost of Rs 6.7 crore.

During the Mahamastakabhisheka, lakhs of people visit Shravanabelagola and the demand for the electricity will be high. the new substation has been planned to make sure an uninterrupted power supply during Mahamastakabhisheka.

At present, two substations are functioning at Rachenahalli and Jattnahalli, under Shravanabelagola hobli. They have been supplying electricity to nearly 60 villages. Due to overload, there was a regular interruption in power supply. The new unit, which will comprise seven feeders, can supply power to more than 60 villages under the seven Gram Panchayats in the hobli.

During Mahamastakabhisheka, the major streets and Vindyagiri and Chandragiri hills, in Shravanabelagola, will be illuminated and thus the demand for electricity will be high. An official said, "The new unit has been planned to ensure sufficient power supply and 70% of works on the unit has been completed. The substation will start functioning before December-end. The works on the control room, return room, have already been completed," he said.
