287 names added to endosulfan victims' list

The endosulfan rehabilitation and grievance redressal cell has decided to include 287 names to the list of endosulfan victims. The list currently has the names of 5,209 victims.

It was found during the health camps in various parts of the district that 287 people have been suffering from diseases caused by endosulfan. The committee has also decided to provide treatment to 608 people suffering from serious diseases.

Presiding over a meeting convened at the District Collector's office on Monday, Kerala Revenue Minister E Chandrashekhar said that the government has decided to extend by a year the repayment dates for the loans availed by endosulfan victims from banks. As many as 181 welfare schemes will be implemented with the assistance of Nabard and of these, 128 have already been completed.

Two thousand containers of endosulfan stacked at the Cashew development corporation warehouses will be deactivated and a committee of experts will be appointed towards the same, he said.

Legislators N A Nellikunnu, K Kunhirama, committee members and representatives of Panchayat took part in the meet.
