The sixth Additional District and Sessions court on Thursday sentenced a man to 14 years jail and imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh for raping a 14-year-old girl in 2014.
K G Maheshgowda, who served as BSR Congress Party district unit president, is the accused.
Mahesh had allegedly repeatedly raped the girl in her house.
The incident of rape came to light only after she became pregnant. The girl was then a Class VIII student.
Public Prosecutor B C Shivarudraswamy said that Mahesh would visit the girl's house on the pretext of helping her family but in the absence of the family members, he used to rape her.
Vidyaranyapuram Police had submitted a charge sheet before the court.
