Last Updated 20 April 2010, 17:10 IST

Although the terms of reference are yet to be disclosed, sources confirmed that the inquiry will be only against the Registrars and will not extend to the actions of the Vice-Chancellor N Prabhu Dev.

The registrars of Bangalore University M G Krishnan and Registrar (Evaluation) M S Talawar were summoned on Tuesday by Justice Vashisht to the Governor’s office for a preliminary hearing. Sources said that the charges against the two registrars and the evidence against them were submitted to the retired judge.

Sources confirmed that the terms of reference for the inquiry will primarily be the press conference called by the two Registrars after the rift between them and the Vice-Chancellor came to light and also the allegations levelled against them by Prabhu Dev.

It may be recalled that the V-C had accused the two registrars of delaying the implementation of certain examination reforms and delaying clearances for several of his orders. The V-C had also stated that there was an “octopus hold of vested interests” on the offices of the two Registrars.

Meanwhile, sources revealed that the preliminary hearing did feature an intensive questioning as the retired judge was getting acquainted with the charges and allegations against the Registrars. The next hearing will take place on May 10.
