Last Updated 22 April 2010, 19:03 IST

After repeated efforts to get the community centre restored failed, members of the Forum decided to take aid of the Right to Information Act. It was then revealed that Rs 2.65 lakh had been sanctioned by the Karnataka Slum Clearance Board for taking up renovation work on the community centre.

Armed with the RTI reply, the Forum members approached the contractor to whom the contract had been awarded and sought to know the reason for the delay. Pushed to the wall, the contractor expedited the task and completed the repair work.

The success story of use of RTI to bring justice to the public was narrated by Tulasi and Mary of the Forum at a press conference by organised Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Bangalore.

The Coalition, a forum of human rights and NGOs, will hold RTI Clinic to create awareness about the importance of RTI on April 24 in Bangalore.  The clinic will be held at Cubbon Park, Opposite Press Club, between 2 pm and 4 pm. For details call K Sudha: 94820-50981, Manohar: 9535037596.
